2020 was a year of intense transition. Panic, fear, and political unrest all reached boiling points; tragedies seemed incessant.
And with social distancing measures, many—if not all— of our escapes became taboo. We had to build community while apart, finding new ways to save our sanity in a virtual world — one thing that continued to keep us together was music. Another reminder why we prefer favorite over best. We constantly ask ourselves - What is YOUR (my) relationship with this art?
This year, we spent hundreds of hours listening to music to present our Favorite 60 tracks. A selection of tracks from billboard top 40 artists, artists you should know, and discoveries (tracks released pre-2020) that remind us there will always be a song from the past that makes us savor the present.
But in a year that has taken so much from us, we decided we needed to give more. SIDE B presents a more yin to the yang, if you will, side of 7THLISTEN.
Foreground: We had a lot of alone time, turning on music to play the back, to help fill the void. And on several occasions, songs seemed to do more, than take up space, they moved into the spotlight. The foreground playlist is composed of songs that refused to play just a support role.
And the I Wanna Go Outside: Some songs are best heard outside and with your people. This list consists of 20 tracks that should be played loud and vibrantly.
